Rosh Hashana is the start of the Hebrew calendar and a biblical holiday celebrating the kingship of God. It is a Jewish custom to celebrate the day by eating pomegranates as well as apples dipped in honey as a sign of a sweet and plentiful new year. Peter Spaander, originally from the Netherlands, has been living and serving in Israel with his family since 1978. He has worked as a volunteer with holocaust survivors as well as with elderly new immigrants and also served as an intensive care nurse in a local hospital for many years. Since 2012 he has been able to pursue his lifelong passion of art and painting whilst simultaneously serving at the Garden Tomb as a guide in Dutch, German, English, and Hebrew.
